Another top-10 place for Mavi Garcia

The second last stage of La Vuelta Femenina became a spectacular one of the peloton split early in the stage. Mavi Garcia was in the front again and took another top-10 result.

The Alto de Fuente de las Varas (6,4 km, 5,4%) and Puerto de Campo el Hayal (8,6 km, 4,6%) were halfway the sixth stage the main obstacles of the day. Before the first climb there was a split in the peloton. Mavi Garcia was attentive in the first group. On the first climb four riders formed the first group with Garcia just behind them.

In the front Annemiek Van Vleuten and Gaia Realini took a one minute lead on the final climb. The group with Garcia was caught by a chase group. In the resuming flat kilometres to the finish that group tried to close the gap with the leading duo, but that didn`t succeed. A little more than one minute behind the stage winner Realini Garcia sprinted to a sixth place. In the overall classification Garcia climbed one place to the eight place.

“I had a good sleep and felt recovered from yesterday, so I felt much better during this hard stage. The action started early this stage and it felt good to be in the front all the time. It is nice to finish in the top-10 again and be in the top-10 of the GC. Tomorrow will be another important and very hard day. I think we all feel fatigued, but I will try to give my best one more time”, Garcia commented after the stage.
