Garcia moves up in GC Vuelta Femenina

Friday it was time for the first mountain stage of this La Vuelta Femenina. After a hard stage the finish was on the Mirador de Peñas Llanas. Mavi Garcia again stayed with the best and moved up in the general classification.

It lasted some time before a breakaway was formed in the fifth stage of La Vuelta Femenina. Quinty Ton was one of the riders who was at the front, but her group of six riders was reeled in quickly. On the Puerto de Navafría (11,5 km, 5,8%) 25 riders formed the first group. Spanish champion Mavi Garcia was one of these riders. In the remaining part of the stage it became a cat-and-mouse play between the first two groups. The chasers came close just before the final climb, but wouldn`t come back anymore.

On the Mirador de Peñas Llanas it was Demi Vollering who took the stage win and the overall lead. Garcia could follow the first riders for a long time, but was dropped in the second last kilometre. The Spanish champion limited her losses and crossed the line tenth. Garcia moved into the top-10 of the general classification. She is nineth at 1 minute and 28 seconds from Vollering. “I didn`t feel as good as yesterday. I aimed for the stage podium, but that wasn`t possible today. So I am not satisfied about today, but I simply didn`t have the legs today. Tomorrow we will try again.”
