Liv Racing Xstra started its Spanish May campaign with the Gran Premio Ciudad de Eibar. The team rode offensive again and had two riders in the top-11.
Several riders tried to attack in the first part of the race over 112,3 km, but the peloton didn`t let anybody go. The Liv Racing Xstra riders also tried their luck, but with no luck. On the final climb it was Mavi Garcia who attacked. Marta Jaskulska tried to follow, but just came short. The Polish rider crossed the summit in the second group and tried to bridge to the front in the descent to Eibar.
Eventually the first group stayed away, where Olivia Baril took the win. Almost half a minute later Jaskulska sprinted to a 7th position. Team mate Jeanne Korevaar just finished outside the top-10 in 11th place.
“We tried to get in the breakaway with Tereza, Silke and Katia, but the peloton didn`t let them go. Jeanne and I saved some energy for the final climb. There Garcia attacked and I tried to follow her, but she just went too fast. In the downhill we tried to catch the front group, but unfortunately the gap was too big. In the sprint of the second group I took the 7th place. I was the best young rider today and that makes me a little proud. I never felt better on the climbs, so I am satisfied with today”, Jaskulska told after the race.
Korevaar was also satisfied with her race. “We did a good race with the team. Marta was very strong today. I am satisfied too, but missed the last little push today to be in the front group. Still it is a good start of the Spanish campaign. It felt good to be racing in the front and notice there is still some improvement for the next races. I am looking forward to it!”, the Dutch rider said.
