Liv Racing started the new cycling season well on Saturday. The team did a lot of work in the final of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, but could not prevent Anna van der Breggen from escaping on the Bosberg. Lotte Kopecky sprinted to a fourth place in Ninove.
“We were racing today to win, that was our goal. We were well positioned at the front at the crucial points in the race, such as on the Haaghoek, where the final was initiated, and the race properly started, including four of us. They made their presence felt on the Leberg and Berendries, just as we hoped in advance”, says sports director Lars Boom.
Demi Vollering attacked 25 kilometres from the finish line. Soraya Paladin tried to connect, but that just about failed. We then decided to chase right away in order to keep the gap as little as possible, knowing that the Muur and Bosberg were coming. If you give too much lead, the race may be over. We had to make that choice with four strong riders, including Lotte Kopecky.”
Due to Liv Racing’s work, the group merged. Anna van der Breggen took off on the last part of the Bosberg. She rode solo to the finish line. “It is a pity that Lotte Kopecky just about misses the podium. But she had already put in a lot of effort before that. What sticks with me today is the way of racing. We will take that confidence with us in the upcoming races.”
