It was again an early start for the peloton in the 6th edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Liv Racing Xstra aimed to be in the breakaway and succeeded in their plan.
A lot of riders tried to be in the early breakaway of Liege-Bastogne-Liege. All the Liv Racing Xstra riders tried their luck in the first kilometres of the race, but the peloton didn`t let anybody go. Another attack of Jeanne Korevaar and Quinty Ton had success. Together with Magdeleine Vallieres and Flora Perkins they built up a two minute lead. On the Côte de Mont-Le-Soie – the first climb of the day – the peloton accelerated a little, which brought the gap down.
On Côte de la Haute-Levée the escapees lost more of their advantage and all was back together after this climb. “Our goal was to be involved in a breakaway. That worked out very well. All of our riders tried their luck. At a certain moment Jeanne and I attacked together. We took a nice lead, but on the third climb of the day the peloton came back. I tried to stay away a little bit longer, but I got caught quickly. I am happy that my legs are starting to feel better and better after a long injury period”, Ton told after the race.
Another happy and satisfied rider was Korevaar, who made her return in Fleche Wallone on Wednesday. “I am very happy to play an active role in the race. We wanted to show ourselves and that happened. All girls we very committed to be in the day`s breakaway. After we were caught my tank was a little empty, but still I am satisfied to be racing again after a hard periode off the bike”, Korevaar said.
