The Italian one day race is known for its climbs Casale and Orino. On the local circuit Spanish champion Mavi Garcia showed her offensive intentions several times.
The Trofeo Alfredo Binda (139 kilometres) started from Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca and finished after four laps on the finishing circuit – with the Casale and Orino in every lap – in Cittiglio. On the local laps the race exploded after several attacks. Spanish champion Mavi Garcia was one of the riders who rode very offensive and tried to get away multiple times.
After Shirin van Anrooij rode away in the secondlast lap Garcia launched a counter attack on the final Orino climb. Unfortunately Garcia didn`t get enough co-operation of the other riders to close the gap, so the chase group rode for the second place. In the sprint Garcia took a tenth place, her fourth top-10 result of this season.
“I felt very good today, but it was very difficult to make the difference in the last lap. I tried several times, but I couldn`t create a substantial gap. A tenth place is a good result, but not the result we came for. Still we are on the right track to achieve it! The team was also impressive again. The girls all gave their maximum today”, Garcia commented after the race.
