Mavi García: “A good general classification is the goal, but the level is high”

Liv Racing TeqFind comes to the Giro Donne with two big goals. In the sprints, hopes are pinned on Rachele Barbieri, while Mavi García is aiming for a good general classification. Both riders have previously expressed the potential for good results in the Italian stage race.

During last year`s Giro Donne Rachele Barbieri finished in the top-10 three times before she took the second place in the final stage. The Italian sprinter is eager to show her fast legs again. “After the RideLondon Classique I took a little break to recharge my batteries. Then I headed to Livigno for an altitude training camp. The training went well and I feel ready for this Giro. It would be nice to repeat the Giro of last year, although the course will be hard. I want to make a good start in the short time trial. The third stage finishes in my own region, so there I want to do a good sprint. Of course the stage win or a podium spot is our goal. In the other stages I will try to survive and help the team and Mavi as much as I can.”

Mavi García has had her best results in the past two editions. In the 2021 Giro Donne, she finished fifth; last year she even came third. “I am aware that it is very difficult to improve on those performances, but I have worked hard and I hope I am up to the task and can fight with the best riders every day. The course appeals to me. The time trial kilometres are limited and the other stages are generally tough. Especially in the fifth stage, I expect fireworks from the riders who are aiming for a good classification, this could be the key stage in the race. My preparation was excellent. I had a good altitude training camp in Sierra Nevada and the fifth Spanish road title last weekend gave me a lot of confidence. I am curious to see where I stand and how my form compares to that of the other riders. A good result in the general classification is the goal, but the level is high and that goal is not that easy.”
