Omloop Het Nieuwsblad: the start of the classic season

The wait is finally over! The spring classic season is about to start. This Saturday the peloton starts in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad for the first cobbled classic of the spring season.

Lange Munte, Haaghoek, Berendries, Muur-Kapelmuur or Bosberg. All names that ring a bell during the cobbled classic season, which starts with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. After the team presentation in the iconic `t Kuipke the race starts at 13h30 in Ghent. The finish after 132,2 hard kilometres in Ninove is be expected around 17h15.

Liv Racing TeqFind brings Eva Buurman, Valerie Demey, Marta Jaskulska, Silke Smulders, Quinty Ton and Rachele Barbieri to the start line in Ghent. While the other riders were active in the UAE Tour or the Setmana Ciclista-Volta Comunitat Valenciana Fèmines it will be the first race of the road season for Barbieri.

“I started my winter training very early with the Champions League on the track. After that I took some time to recover before I headed to the first training camp with the team. There I suffered with all the hard training, but the second training camp was very good. After that camp I travelled to the European Track Championships with good expectations. The results there weren`t exactly what I expected on forehand. Now it is time to start my road season.”

“I am a little nervous for Saturday. It is my first race and it is a hard one to start with. The whole peloton wants to show something there, so it will be a very hectic. On Thursday we will recon the final part of the race. For me it is important as I didn`t race here last year. I would like to start the season in a good way, but for know I just don`t know where I stand and how the legs will react. Still I am looking forward to get the season started”, said Barbieri.
