In the men`s peloton the Scheldeprijs is one of the oldest races on the calendar, for the women the second edition of this race will take place tomorrow.
The first edition of the Scheldeprijs finished in a bunch sprint. It is likely that tomorrow`s race will also finish in a sprint. However the weather circumstances with rain and wind can make it a hard race and cause some echelons. In case of a sprint Liv Racing Xstra can count on Rachele Barbieri. The Italian rider won the third stage in the Bloeizone Fryslân Tour and was 6th in Dwars door Vlaanderen last week. “After last week`s races in Flanders I feel I am ready to go for a good result in the Scheldeprijs. There is a good possibility for a bunch sprint. We have a strong team and we will give it all for a good result.”
Barbieri will be accompanied by Eva Buurman, Marta Jaskulska, Amber van der Hulst, Ayesha McGowan and Quinty Ton, who makes her comeback after three weeks without racing. “The last weeks I had to take it easy, but now I am cleared to train and race again. So tomorrow will be my first race in a long time. Of course I`m anxious to see how things go, but the most important thing is that I can ride again. I will use tomorrow`s race to get back into the rhythm and look further after that”, Ton told.
