After a rest day Mavi Garcia attacked in the penultimate stage of the Giro Donne. The Spanish champion finished in the top-10 again.
A transfer to Sardinia waited for the riders after the seventh stage on Thursday, followed by a rest day on Friday. With the batteries recharged the peloton started in Nuoro for the penultimate stage of this Giro Donne. After some unfruitful attacks it was Mavi Garcia who attacked in the long downhill of the first – unclassified – climb. She was reeled in quickly, but stayed alert in the front of the first group.
Some attacks followed, but all were reeled in. Also an attempt of a group including Katia Ragusa on 12 kilometres from the finish was neutralised. Despite all attacks it came down to an uphill sprint. Garcia was on the front line again and finished seventh for the third time this Giro.
“I feel better every day. It is too bad we lost some time during the seventh stage, but the legs start to feel better day by day. Today was another hard stage and it is good to be in the top-10 again. Tomorrow we want to finish on a high note”, Garcia commented after the stage.
