The fifth and final stage of the Simac Ladies Tour brought the peloton to Arnhem. Liv Racing TeqFind rode an aggressive stage and was in the front all the race.
Early in the stage several groups tried to get away. Jeanne Korevaar and Valerie Demey tried to get in the breakaway, but their groups were caught quickly. When a large group took off Marta Jaskulska was there for Liv Racing TeqFind. A small group with Quinty Ton went in the counter attack and bridged to the first group, so there were two Liv Racing TeqFind riders in the front group. Jaskulska was attentive and jumped clear a few times, but without luck.
When the first group accelerated in the final Jaskulska had to let get and only Ton stayed in the first group. Despite several accelerations a sprint had to bring the decision in Arnhem. Lorena Wiebes took the final stage win, Lotte Kopecky finished third and claimed the overall. Ton passed the finish line as 15th, which brought her to a 13th place in the overall classification.
“The team was really strong today. We attacked several times in the first part of the stage. Marta was in the right big group. When another group tried to bridge I jumped along. Then somebody crashed right before me. Luckily I could avoid a crash, but I had to chase the group and that costed some energy. While I was recovering a bit, Marta attacked several times. She didn`t get away, but that costed a lot of energy and she had to let go in the finale. I was still in the front and felt good. I maybe should have tried a little more in the final kilometres, but still I am happy with my performance today. I am satisfied about the whole week. I think my time trials could have been better, but in the other stages I felt good. The team was also really good this week. That gives a lot of motivation for the final races of the year”, Ton commented after the race.
